dreamweaver how insert symbols markers hyphens dashes white space and breaks.
You can add special characters, such as the Euro, copyright, or trademark symbol, to your page in Dreamweaver without having to remember their bizarre HTML equivalents or odd keyboard combinations. In Dreamweaver, relief is just a menu choice away.
Browsers use HTML and numeric entities to display characters and symbols that can't be inserted from a normal keyboard. how to insert them in Dreamweaver and discusses the best approach for inserting accented characters, such as those used in many European languages.
An oddity about HTML is that it ignores multiple spaces. One of the special characters you can insert is the non-breaking space, which is useful for adding multiple consecutive spaces and occasionally for nudging text and even images. Dreamweaver uses the HTML code for a non-breaking space (which is  ) inside paragraph tags so that blank lines appear in Web browsers, like so:
<p>&nbsp;</p>
If you want multiple spaces between words, insert one or more non-breaking spaces. The easiest way to do this is to press Ctrl-Shift-spacebar (Cmd-Shift-spacebar), but you can also use the Characters pop-up menu in the Text category of the Insert panel or the Insert > HTML > Special Characters submenu.
The main message of most Web sites is conveyed by the site's text, and a major part of your job in working with any site will be adding, modifying, and styling that text. Dreamweaver gives you the tools you need to effectively put text on your pages and get your message across.

how dreamweaver created Fluid 960 Grid System Templates

how dreamweaver created Fluid 960 Grid System Templates

how dreamweaver created Fluid 960 Grid System Templates

The Fluid Grid layouts are clearly based on Ethan Marcotte's Responsive Web Design (the book and the article that led to the book). This feature allows you to specify three fluid grids: one each for mobile, tablet, and desktop layouts. Each grid can have 2–24 columns; a common gutter width between the columns and you can specify how wide the grid should spread across each screen.
You then add fluid grid layout div elements to construct your page in the mobile layout. (Mobile First) The next step lands squarely in the category of "brilliant"—you can resize the elements in each of the layouts, snap them to the grid, and then easily move individual elements to sit alongside and play nice with each other. This is done in either Design view or Live view, and, best of all all, Dreamweaver automatically calculates the percentage width of elements and margins to four decimal places.
This calculation is based on Ethan's formula of target/context = result. A good example of this would be column width. Let's assume you have a page width of 1232 pixels and you decide each column should be 350 pixels wide. To get the fluid column width you divide 350 (the Target) by 1232 (the Context) = 0.28409091. You would then move the decimal two places to the right for a result of 28.409091. Dreamweaver's Fluid Grid layout calculation will shave off the final two numbers for a result of 28.4090 per cent. This calculation applies to anything that has "hard" numbers attached to it such as font size, margin, padding and so on.
The CSS created by the Fluid Grid Layouts uses percentage widths and floats, so it produces layouts that adapt to any screen size. These styles are constructed on the basis of "mobile first" and even work in browsers that don't understand media queries. For those of you new to Responsive Web Design, this one feature alone is enough to get you into the game.

Controlling images within a table using CSS in dreamweaver

Controlling images within a table using CSS in dreamweaver

Controlling images within a table using CSS in dreamweaver
Cascading Style Sheets aren't just for stylizing text. You can also use the design power of CSS to add borders to an image, force text to wrap around an image, and even add images to the background of other elements. For example, the CSS background-image property lets you place an image in the background of a Web page, or add a graphical background to a link.
In general, you probably don't need to create a tag style for the <img> tag. That type of style applies across a site, and affects every image. And while you may want a bright red, 10-pixel border around each thumbnail in a photo gallery, you probably don't want that border around the site's logo or the graphical navigation buttons on that same page. You're more likely to create class styles that you manually apply to certain graphics. In this case, create a class style with the proper border setting, and then apply that class to each gallery image
Learn how to insert and place an image using CSS when working in Adobe Dreamweaver . Whether you're new to Adobe's popular WISYWIG HTML editor or a seasoned web development professional just looking to better acquaint yourself with the workflow, you're sure to be well served by this video tutorial. For more information, including a step-by-step overview, watch this free video guide..
Correctly Positioning an image with CSS against a block of text can be quite challanging to the novice web designer. Fortunetly it's very easy to accomplish, and in this Dreamweaver tutorial we will show you how.
First let's create a div (a div creates a container and allows attributes to be applied to control it's properties).
To start with we need a container to hold the image and text, in CSS the div element lends it's self perfectly for this purpose.
To insert our div tag Insert > Layout Objects > Div Tag
Dreamweaver will insert the div tag on the page.
Dreamweaver places some default text in the Div layer, remove this. Then place your cursor back in the div tag and click, this is the position that Dreamweaver is going to insert the image.
The image should now be inside the div layer, if you tried to add text next to the image you would notice that it wraps around the bottom of the placed image, not really the effect that we want.
To make things a little clearer we are going to switch from WYSIWYG mode to code view, click on the code button top left

Build Powerful Websites in Dreamweaver

Build Powerful Websites in Dreamweaver

Build Powerful Websites in Dreamweaver
You must define a Dreamweaver local site folder for each new website you create. Dreamweaver needs to know where your site files are to create all the internal links correctly, and to update them when you move files to a different location within your site.
Next, set up the site for this tutorial series and define as your local site folder the check_cs5 folder you copied into your Sites folder:
Start Dreamweaver and select Site > New Site. The Site Setup dialog box appears. CS5.5 users should select Dreamweaver Site under the Create New heading.
In the Site Name text box, enter Check Magazine as the name of the site. The name is used internally by Dreamweaver to identify the site. It doesn't matter if it contains spaces.
Click the folder icon next to the Local Site Folder text box to browse to and select the check_cs5 folder.
The Site Setup dialog box should now look like Figure 1.
Figure 1. Defining the local site folder for the Check Magazine site.
Note: The file paths might differ, depending on where you created the Sites folder on your hard drive.
Click Save. That's it!
The Files panel in Dreamweaver now shows the new local root folder for your current site (see Figure 2). The file list in the Files panel acts as a file manager, allowing you to copy, paste, delete, move, and open files just as you would on a desktop.
Figure 2. List of files in the Files panel
For more information about how the Files panel works, see Work with files in the Files panel in Dreamweaver Help.
You've now defined a local site folder for the Check Magazine site. This is where you keep the working copies of web pages on your local computer. Later, if you want to publish your pages and make them publicly available, you'll need to define a remote folder—a place on a remote computer, running a web server that will hold published copies of your local files. You'll learn how to do that in part 6 of this tutorial series.

how to add and modifying images in dreamweaver

how to add and modifying images in dreamweaver

how to add and  modifying images in dreamweaver
Insert an image
When you insert an image into a Dreamweaver document, a reference to the image file is generated in the HTML source code. To ensure that this reference is correct, the image file must be in the current site. If it is not in the current site, Dreamweaver asks whether you want to copy the file into the site.
You can also insert images dynamically. Dynamic images are those images that change often. For example, advertising banner rotation systems need to randomly select a single banner from a list of potential banners, and then dynamically display the selected banner's image when a page is requested. Most websites, including thesitewizard.com, have a logo that appears on every page of the website. Since this tutorial will show you how you can place that logo on your web page, you will need to have a unique image to serve as your site logo if you're to complete this chapter.
For those who are designing a company website, chances are that you already have some sort of logo around (for example, on your letterhead). If you can get hold of an electronic version of that logo, either in the GIF, JPG or PNG image formats, then you're all set. Otherwise, scan or take a digital photograph of that logo, and use that image. Make sure the image is in the GIF, JPG or PNG formats (which shouldn't be a problem since most cameras and scanners support the JPG file format).
If you don't already have a logo, you should create one to use here. For things like logos, it's best not to use one of those free images you see on the Internet, even if the author says that you can use it royalty-free on your site. You will want your logo to be unique to your website, and not something other sites also sport. You can create logos either by drawing them on paper and then scanning them, or by using a drawing program or an image editor such as one of the free ones found on the Free Drawing and Painting Software, Image and Photo Editing Programs page.
You should also read that tutorial if you're not sure how wide your picture should be. While there are no rules for the width or height of an image for a website, if your picture is too wide, you'll have a very difficult time getting it to fit into your web page.
Again, remember this cardinal rule: pictures of any sort that you want to place your site must be in either the GIF, JPG or PNG file format. Do not use any other format.

Back up site definitions Dreamweaver

Back up site definitions Dreamweaver

If you've chosen Local/Network access in the Remote Info category of the Site Definition dialog box (not shown in Figure 6-3) you'll need to supply the following information to tell Dreamweaver where to copy the files over the network for publication.

Remote Folder
Provide the path to the network server directory that acts as the root folder for your remote site. This path might look like G:/www/public_html/foobar/ (ask your webmaster or network administrator).
Refresh Remote File List Automatically
Enable this option to refresh the Remote Files pane of the Site window whenever files are transferred from the Local Files list.
When using Local/Network access, the File Check In and Check Out options are the same as when using FTP access (described in the previous section). Use of Local/Network access does not require a Dreamweaver password setting. That said, to copy files to your network server, you should log into your network prior to starting Dreamweaver.

SourceSafe Database access

Visual SourceSafe is a sophisticated project tracking software package from Microsoft. If you've chosen SourceSafe Database access in the Remote Info category of the Site Definition dialog box (not shown in Figure 6-3), you'll need Dreamweaver 4.01 plus access to a Visual Source Safe (VSS) server and a VSS database. Windows users must also install Version 6 or later of Microsoft's VSS Client. Macintosh users must install the Metrowerks VSS client as described at:

http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/site/source_safe_mac/
http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/documents/vss_on_mac.htm
These SourceSafe configuration options are accessed using the Settings button in the Remote Info category of the Site Definition dialog box (not shown). Ask your SourceSafe administrator for assistance.

Database Path
Specifies the path to the SourceSafe database's srcsafe.ini file that Dreamweaver uses to initialize SourceSafe integration.
Project
Provides the name of your project within the SourceSafe database (a single database can manage multiple projects).
Username
Provides your SourceSafe account username.
Password
Provides your SourceSafe account password. Enable the Save option if you don't want to keep retyping your password.
The final option determines how Dreamweaver integrates its File Check In/Check Out feature with SourceSafe.

Check Out Files when Opening
You should enable this option to allow Dreamweaver's File Check In/Check Out feature to work cooperatively with SourceSafe. You need not supply identifying information because Dreamweaver uses your SourceSafe identity.
WebDAV access

WebDAV is an open standard for file tracking and version control supported by some web servers. If you've chosen WebDAV access in the Remote Info category of the Site Definition dialog box (not shown in Figure 6-3), you'll need Dreamweaver 4.01 plus access to a WebDAV-compatible server, such as Microsoft IIS 5.0 or the Apache Web Server.

The WebDAV configuration options are accessed using the Settings button in the Site Definition dialog box (not shown). Ask your WebDAV administrator for assistance.

URL
The URL of the root folder on the WebDAV server, beginning with http://.
Username
Provides your WebDAV account username.
Password
Provides your WebDAV account password. Enable the Save Password option if you don't want to keep retyping your password.
Email
Provides your email address to be used within WebDAV.
The final option determines how Dreamweaver integrates its File Check In/Check Out feature with WebDAV.

Check Out Files when Opening
You should enable this option to enable Dreamweaver's File Check In/Check Out feature to work cooperatively with WebDAV. You need not supply identifying information because Dreamweaver uses your WebDAV identity.

Automating insert tables in dreamweaver use snippets script

Automating insert tables in dreamweaver use snippets script

Everybody loves the versatility that JavaScript can bring to your web pages, yet not as many people love programming JavaScript. Go figure.

Dreamweaver makes your life easier by allowing you to insert Behaviors, most of which directly translate into JavaScript. Using behaviors, you can do things like insert pop-up windows, create disjointed rollovers, check to see if users have a certain plug-in or what browser theyre running.

Commands save you work by automating complex tasks, like creating a photo album or checking HTML for redundancy or unneeded tags.

The best thing about behaviors and commands is that they are extendable. Many third party companies and individuals write commands and behaviors for Dreamweaver. You can download these extensions from the web, most often for free! Our web design course has even made some custom behaviors available to you!Behaviors are mostly JavaScripts made easy. To work with Behaviors, youll have to open the Behaviors Inspector:

WINDOW-> BEHAVIORS

Notice that the Behavior Inspector has a window labeled "Events For:" Make sure this is set to "4.0 and Later Browsers". You can set behaviors specifically for Netscape or IE, but why would you? Browser versions 3.0 and below have trouble with JavaScripts, so its best to leave them out right now. Later, you can run a special check to see what version browser someone is using. If theyre using (shudder) 3.0 or below, you can automatically direct them to a page designed for them.

The most important (and often overlooked) part of the Behavior inspector is the title bar. You will apply different behaviors (JavaScripts) to different elements. For example, you must have the <body> selected if you wish to check a browser version or pop a window up on load.

Put an image and some text on the screen.
Click the image and the text. Watch as the tag identified in the title bar of the Behavior Inspector changes.

Adding Behaviors

To add a behavior:

1. Click the element you wish to add a behavior to: <body>, an image, a link

2. Click the "+" on the Behaviors Inspector to add a behavior

3. Choose your behavior.
("Open Browser Window") chosen in example below.

4. Use the Events pull down to determine when your behavior event will occur.
Note that different options are available, depending what youre adding the behavior to. For example, when adding a behavior to a form, you can choose "on submit" as the event to trigger an action.

Useful <body> Behaviors

To use the <body> behaviors, you must be clicked into the body. This can sometimes be tricky. You may often be clicked inside a <p> tag. Remember that you can choose the tag youre editing by clicking on it in the lower left corner of the Dreamweaver window.

Some of the most useful <body> behaviors are:

Check Browser: You can check what browser a user is operating and redirect them to a page designed for their particular set up.

Check Plug-in: If your page uses elements that require a plug-in, you can check to make sure that your users have the correct plug-in before proceeding. If they dont, you can automatically direct them to a page that is plug-in free, or you can direct them to get the plug-in.

Go to URL: Automatically shuttles a user off to another URL, used when a page changes location. You can change the behavior so that it works on the page load, or when a user exits. Use this power only for good and never for evil.

Play Sound: Plays a .WAV or .AIFF file. Note that these files are large and take a fair amount of time to download. A small sound is okay, but stay away from extended sounds. Later youll learn how to stream MP3s and Real Audio.

Pop-up Message: A pop-up window appears upon load. Be careful not to get annoying.
